The population of the study were drawn from public secondary school in JSSI in Boji Boji Owa and Boji Boji Agbor metropolis in Ika-North east and Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State Nigeria. A sample of 150 students were selected through random sampling. Z-test was used to analyse the data. The findings revealed that there is no significant differences in the overall performance of the students from public and private primary school in JSSI. It also showed that there is no difference in their performance in mathematics and Basic science. However there is a significant difference in their performance in English studies. Generally the students perform poorly in JSSI. Conclusions was drawn and recommendations were also made.

Abstract The study investigated the impact of social media on secondary school students' study habit and academic activities. The study is aimed at determining the extent social media have affected the study habits and academic activities of secondary school students. A survey design was adopted. The population for the study comprises 1497 senior secondary school students in four selected schools in Agbor metropolis of Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State. A multi-stage sampling technique was employed in selecting 180 respondents for the study. Three research questions were raised to guide the study while three hypotheses were developed for the study. A self-designed instrument tagged Time Allotment Schedule For Social Media And Academic Activities (TASSMA) was used in collecting data for the research. The instrument was validated by two experts. The reliability of the instrument was obtained using test-retest method and a reliability coefficient of 0.83 was obtained. Data were analyzed using percentages and Chi-square statistics. It was discovered from the analysis of data that use of social media by the senior secondary school students has impact on their study habit and academic activities. It was also revealed that social media have the same effects on male and female students study habit. It equally revealed that social media also have same effects on public and private school students. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations were equally made.

Abstract The study examined the unidimensionality of multiple-choice items in Delta State junior secondary school certificate examination in Basic Science and Technology 2020 academic session. Four research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted both survey and correlational design. The population for the study comprised 73,532 junior secondary school students in the 2020/2021 academic session. Two stage multi-sampling technique was used to select the sample. The first stage was purposeful sampling to select four secondary schools in each senatorial districts of the state, while the second stage involved using systematic sampling to select the students from the selected schools. A 60 item multiple-choice question of the 2020 Basic Science and Technology of the Delta State BECE 2020 was used. The validity and reliability were already established by the examination body. The instrument was administered to 180 students. Point by point biserial correlation was used for the data analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that 37 out of 60 items were unidimensional (61.7%), while 23 items were multidimensional (38.3%). The study equally revealed that gender account for 18% variation of the unidimensionality of the items. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations were equally made.

Abstract The study examined the performance of students in paperpencil tests and computer-based tests in Mathematics. The population of the study are SS 3 students in the 2022/2023 academic session in Delta State. A sample of 180 students was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Two sets of equivalent 50 multiple-choice items were used for the study. The validity of the instruments was established using expert judgement while KuderRicharson formula 20 was used to establish the reliability coefficient of the instruments. A reliability coefficient of 0.78 and 0.76 was obtained for the instruments. Correlational survey design was adopted. Data were analysed using mean, standard deviation, frequency counts, percentages, cumulative frequency and Pearson product-moment correlation method statistics at a 0.01 level of significance. It was discovered that there is a relationship between the performance of students in paper-pencil tests and computer-based tests examinations. It equally shows that the performance of male and female students is related. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations were equally made.

Abstract This paper examined the functionality and the role of keys and distracters of the response of students in multiple choice test constructed by classroom teachers in Mathematics. The population consists of Junior Secondary school students from Delta and Edo states Nigeria. Thirty multiple choice tests constructed by classroom teachers were administered to a sample of 300 jss2 students, 150 in Edo south senatorial districts and 150 from Delta central senatorial districts of Edo and Delta state respectively. The psychometric property of the instrument was not established as the key and distracters of multiple-choice tests affect the psychometric properties which is one of the major reasons why the research was been carried out. The inspection method was used to find out the functionality of the key and distracters, percentage was also used to analyse the data collected. The results obtained was analysed and it was discovered that 50% of the items have some distracters that are not functioning while 24% have keys that are not functioning. The non-functioning key and distracters have implications for the validity, reliability, objectivity and usability of the multiple-choice tests. Conclusions were drawn and the following recommendations were made: the teacher and other test constructors should be well informed on the rudiment of how to construct multiple choice tests, tests constructed by both teachers and public examination bodies should be subject to trial testing where the emphasis should not only be on the difficult-level and discriminative index but also include an analysis of keys and distracters.

Abstract The study investigated the impact of local language on the academic performance of nursery school pupils in Mathematics, Basic Science and Agricultural Science. The pre-test-posttest control group experimental design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 180 pupils. A sample of 120 pupils was used for the experiment and the remaining 60 participants served as the control group. Four research questions and four hypotheses were developed for the study. Two research instruments (multiple-choice items) were used for the analysis. Expert judgement was used to ascertain the validity of the instrument. Kuder Richarson formular20 was used to establish the reliability of the instruments. The instruments were administered to the pupils. Mean, standard deviation and percentage were used to answer the research question, while a t-test was also used at a 0.05 level of significance to analyze the hypotheses. The findings revealed that local language has an impact on the overall performance of the pupils. The subject-by-subject analysis of the three subjects equally shows that using the local language in teaching nursery pupils at an early stage will improve academic performance compared to those taught in English language. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations were equally made.

Abstract The study investigated the influence of teacher factor in the implementation of continuous assessment programme in public secondary schools in Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State. The study employed Expo-facto design. The population of the study is 4,929 teachers in Delta North Senatorial District in the 2014/2015 session. A sample of 1,240 teachers were drawn from 50 public schools in the district. Questionnaire was used to obtaining data for the study. The validity of the instruments was established, using expert judgement, while the reliability was established, using Cronbash Apha, with coefficient of 0.76. The data was analysed using z-test. The results indicated that the way male and female teachers, professional and non-professional teachers influence implementation of continuous assessment differs. Urban and rural teachers, experienced and non-experienced teachers, however, proved otherwise. There was a general poor implementation of the programme. Conclusions was drawn and recommendations were made

Abstract The study was aimed at finding out the effects of class-size on the academic achievement of students in mathematics. In conducting the study, three research questions were raised, and three hypotheses were developed from the research questions. One hundred JSS 3 students were used as the population for the study, who served as the sample. Two instruments were used: Test and Questionnaire. The psychometric properties of the instruments were also established. Chi-square and Z-test were used for the analysis of the data. The findings among others showed that class size affects the achievement of students. It also showed that female students are more affected in an overcrowded class. It further revealed that students develop negative preposition in an overcrowded class. Based on the findings conclusion and recommendations were drawn
